What is plumbing?

Plumbing is a Trade that often gets misunderstood for being a brainless drain cleaning and leak fixing activity, when it is really a whole lot more. The specialised trade that deals with water. As a trade there are specific guidelines and technical specifications required in building a balanced, functional water system. Many years of human progression in civilisation and engineering contribute to this Science of Water.

I would describe Plumbing as a basic "Science of Water". The aim being to supply clean usable water to specific points and the disposal of the waste water after that, (generally relying on gravity).

From my perspective in the industry, I would divide Plumbing into 2 main sections: Maintenance and Construction. Both sides work hand in hand, but focus on different aspects of the trade.

Construction Plumbing works on larger scales and requires some experience of working on various construction sites, interacting with other contractors and combining smaller systems to create a finished product for a customer.

Maintenance Plumbing I see as the smaller building blocks that Construction Plumbing assembles into complete working systems, while also dealing with leaks and blockages.  The Maintenance side of the trade would focus more on the intricate details of components, working parts and how they interact. It would entail the upkeep and modification of existing water systems, with a good understanding of the workings and limitations of the components and water.

Regardless of the plumbers' speciality, I would say that it is important that every tradesman has a good understanding of the overall macro system and the smaller technical parts making up the system.

Water Supply

Pressure Guage

Served Hot or Cold

Water is Delivered using Pressure, High or Low

Correct Pressure regulation is a crucial component of any water system. There is a direct connection between the Pressure and Volume on any water distribution system,

just like there is with Voltage and Current on an electrical system. The Pressure Gauge is one of the most important tools in a Plumbers' tool box.

Maintenance Is Key

WA System Built With Maintenance In Mind Is A Story That Ends With: "Happily Ever After"

Wether It's A Geyser Installation Or A Kitchen Sink Tap To Fit, All Working Parts Need To Be Serviced Eventually.

It's A Good Practice To Install Fittings With A Good Warrantee And Serviceable Parts That Are Easy To Source.

Sewer and Drainage

Complex Drainage and sewer lines

Sewer Drainage and Storm Water Drainage

The idea is to carry water away

From above ground drainage to Stack Pipes or Rain-Water Downpipes. Drainage comes in many forms, but the main Idea remains.

"Drainage" is the concept of taking water away. This is generally done using Gravity, but there are other ways to achieve this, depending

on the Specific Requirements and environmental Elements.

Bursts and LEaks

Burst Pipe Repair

Burst Pipes and Leaks

Leaks are not on!! Practice prevention and repair

It is important to know your system, so you can take quick action in case of an emergency. ALWAYS USE ISOLATING VALVES on high pressure water fittings.

If you are able to isolate the water at any water point, you can save yourself from disaster, or unwanted water Outages during bursts or repairs.

We can take care of the rest!

Preventative Maintenance

Geyser Baffle and Anode

The Secret To Long Life

and this applies to any complex water system

Get to know the recommended Service interval for each system, just like you do with your car... or do you?

For example, your steel geyser cylinder should be serviced at least once every 3 years, this has been Scientifically proven to give you a much longer lifespan

on the system, preventing a Burst geyser by replacing some basic consumable parts. Saving you time and the expense and mess of regular burst geysers.
